National intelligent manufacturing special assistance accelerates the localization process of mechanical spindle core components

  Under the strong promotion of intelligent manufacturing by the country, the localization process of mechanical spindles, as the core components of key equipment such as machine tools, is accelerating. The continuous support of the National Intelligent Manufacturing Special Project has provided strong impetus for relevant enterprises and research institutions, promoting significant progress in the research and production of mechanical spindle technology in China.

  In recent years, the government has guided various resources to focus on breakthroughs in core technologies of intelligent manufacturing through a series of policies and financial support. As a key component of industrial mother machines, the localization of mechanical spindles is of great significance for enhancing the overall competitiveness of China's manufacturing industry and ensuring the safety of the industrial supply chain. The "Made in China 2025" and other plans explicitly propose to significantly improve the localization rate of key functional components of CNC machine tools, including core components such as mechanical spindles, by 2025. Under this goal, the National Intelligent Manufacturing Special Project continues to increase investment. In 2023 alone, the National 04 Special Project will invest over 5 billion yuan in key areas including spindles.

  Driven by both policies and funding, domestic enterprises and research teams actively engage in technological breakthroughs. The magnetic levitation electric spindle technology developed by Qinchuan Machine Tool has made significant breakthroughs, reducing energy consumption by 30% while increasing the speed to 40000 rpm, greatly improving the machining efficiency and accuracy of the machine tool. At the same time, the bed is made of carbon fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composite material, which reduces the self weight of the equipment by 40% and further optimizes the performance of the machine tool. Similar innovative achievements continue to emerge, driving the advancement of mechanical spindle technology to a higher level.

  From the perspective of market share, domestic mechanical spindles are gradually breaking the long-standing monopoly of imported products. For a long time, the high price of imported spindles has seriously constrained the cost control and development space of domestic enterprises. For example, the price of IBAG spindles in Switzerland remains high, and the cost of spindles accounts for a large proportion of a single machine tool. Nowadays, domestic spindles have rapidly expanded their market share due to their high cost-effectiveness advantage. Taking the 3C industry as an example, this field has high requirements for the accuracy and reliability of machine tool spindles, and has long relied on imported spindles. But with the continuous breakthroughs in domestic spindle technology, its localization rate has rapidly increased from 8% to 67%, not only saving a lot of equipment procurement costs for the 3C industry, but also driving the upgrading and optimization of the entire industry chain.

  In addition, domestic spindles have also begun to emerge in the international market. Recently, a lathe enterprise in Türkiye purchased a batch of Chinese turning milling composite spindles. This event marks the recognition of domestic spindles in the international manufacturing field, highlights the technical strength of China's manufacturing industry, and lays a foundation for domestic machine tools to go global.

  Although there is still a certain gap between China's mechanical spindles and the international advanced level in some fields, with the deepening implementation of the national intelligent manufacturing special project and the continuous innovation of enterprises and research institutions, domestic mechanical spindles are expected to achieve import substitution in more fields, further promoting China's transformation from a manufacturing power to a manufacturing powerhouse.
